The most successful team in Porsche Carrera Cup GB history, Redline Racing, are making an exciting expansion into the brand new Porsche Sprint Challenge GB this season with a four car entry featuring a mix of returning drivers and new faces to the team.
The latest addition to Porsche GB’s motorsport pyramid, the new-for-2020 one-make series will be utilising the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport machines as it races on the two biggest platforms in the UK, in support of the British Touring Car Championship and British GT Championship.
Making a welcome return to the Teeside squad after almost a decade away is Archie Hamilton, who last competed with them in the Carrera Cup GB in 2010. In the years that followed, he went on to compete in GT championships across the globe and twice contest the Le Mans 24 Hours.
While Hamilton has not competed full-time in motorsport since 2015, he’s been keeping sharp behind the wheel by driving some of the fastest and most exotic road cars in the world as part of his hugely successful ‘Archie Hamilton Racing’ YouTube channel.
Re-joining Redline after even longer apart is Nigel Rice, who previously contested exactly 100 Carrera Cup GB races with the team between 2004 and 2008. A two-time overall podium-finisher, Rice was also crowned the 2007 Pro-Am champion in dominant fashion.
An exciting talent teaming up with Redline for his first foray into Porsche racing is Ethan Hawkey. The 18 year old from London steps up following two seasons in the ultra-competitive Ginetta Junior Championship, in which he was a podium-finisher last year.
Chris Car meanwhile enters the Sprint Challenge GB with previous experience in a Cayman GT4. A regular GT racer in recent years, he piloted one last season in three rounds of the British GT Championship alongside former Redline racer Dino Zamparelli.
Simon Leonard – Team Boss: “We’re hugely excited to announce our entry into the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB for its inaugural season in 2020. The championship is set for a great first season and it’s a natural fit for us to enter alongside our Carrera Cup GB commitments.
“With the 2020 calendar including racing alongside both the BTCC and British GT, it provides a great platform for drivers to compete on, while the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a fantastic piece of machinery and suitably challenges both Pro and Am drivers.
“We’re delighted to welcome both Archie and Nigel back to Redline. While Archie hasn’t raced for a few years, he has a superb natural talent and is sure to be very quick. Nigel was a loyal servant for the team for many years and we can’t wait to see how he gets on this year.
“Ethan showed in Ginetta’s that he’s a fast racer and he should adapt well to the Porsche, while Chris’ experience from last year will help him hit the ground running this season. All in all, we have a great driver line-up and we can’t wait for the season to start.”
The 2020 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB will be contested over seven events, with three outings on the support bills for both the BTCC and British GT alongside a headline slot in a Porsche Club GB meeting. The season starts at Silverstone on 24-26 April.
