Team Redline Racing Score First Sprint Challenge GB Podiums Of 2022

Team Redline Racing scored their first podium finishes of the 2022 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season this past weekend at the fastest circuit in the UK, Thruxton (28/29 May).

After a consistent trio of fourth place finishes in the season opener at Silverstone, Steve Roberts hoped to finally break his podium duck in Hampshire. He was joined by two late additions to the Teesside team in Ben McLoughlin and Jason Pelosi.

Roberts once again challenged the top three throughout proceedings, starting his charge on Saturday morning with a time good enough for fourth in qualifying. Series newcomer McLoughlin meanwhile pumped in more laps than anybody else in a bid to gain as much experience as possible on track before the opening race, ending the session a credible sixth overall among the Pro drivers.

The pair set their sights on the first of the weekend's two races later that afternoon. Roberts had the podium firmly within his grasp, and quickly made his way up to third position in the early stages. Although he fell to fourth, he recovered to gain that third spot back and earn his and the Redline team's first silverware of the Sprint Challenge GB season. McLoughlin fought hard and was not far from adding to the celebrations, climbing two spots to fourth place as he chased Roberts to the chequered flag.

The following day, Roberts went one better with an excellent display in front of the ITV4 cameras. Gaining a spot on lap one, Roberts pushed the leader Harry Foster hard in a bid to usurp his rival of the top spot. The race soon settled down, Roberts keeping Foster honest as he narrowly missed out on victory by 0.6s in second place.

McLoughlin meanwhile would finish fifth to cap off his maiden weekend after running as high as third overall early on. Both were joined for the second race on Sunday by Pelosi, who started from the back of the field in his first outing of the season after missing Saturday. He would go on to finish ninth, but picked up a third place trophy in the Am class as a reward.

Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “It was a late deal to expand our entry for this weekend, but Steve showed great improvements this weekend and deserved his double podium finish. We came very close to grabbing a win too which is highly encouraging for us as we move forward in the series, while Ben and Jason have gained great experience with us."

Team Redline Racing are next in action at Oulton Park across the weekend of 11/12 June, returning to the TOCA paddock with Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
